How To Create YouTube Ads For Your Vegan Shopify Store

Discover How To Turn Video Viewers Into Buyers (Without Losing Money)

Transforming Views Into Sales

Whenever we watch videos on YouTube, there are video & image ads that appear on your screen in the beginning, middle, or end of the video.

Some of those are skippable, and some aren’t.

These video form ads can help you get your products into more hands.

Rising Ad Costs, Lower Click Through Rates - Where Do You Start?

With rising ad costs and more competition in the vegan market, you don’t want your ad spend to vanish into thin air because of poor results.

Every cent matters.

And the silent killer here isn't just your budget, it's the unexplored potential of running a successful Youtube ad.

Let's uncover how to rein in those costs and run successful ads so your product can reach more people…

Step #1 - The Setup

Before we dive in, here are 3 steps below to get you started with Youtube ads.

Create a YouTube Channel

Before we dive in, here are 3 steps below to get you started with Youtube ads.

Before running ads, establish a YouTube channel. Log in to your Google account, click on the profile picture, and select "Create a channel."

Add a name, and your YouTube channel is ready. You'll later upload the video you plan to use as an ad to this channel.

Create a Google Ads Account

  • Visit ads.google.com, click "Sign in," and use the same Gmail login as your YouTube channel. Choose "New Google Ads Account" and proceed with the prompts, providing necessary business information. This setup links your YouTube channel and Google Ads account.

Link Your YouTube Channel and Google Ad Account

  • Navigate to Tools and Settings, click on Linked accounts, select YouTube channel, and manage the link. Add your channel name or URL associated with the Gmail account used for both platforms.

Types Of Youtube Ads

There are 6 different types of ads that appear on Youtube.

  1. TrueView or Skippable Video Ads
  2. Non-Skippable Video Ads
  3. Bumper Ads
  4. Display Ads
  5. Overlay Ads
  6. Sponsored Cards

We suggest testing TrueView/Skippable ads. While they have lower engagement and watch rate metrics. 78% of people skip them.

But viewers tend to be more engaged and have a higher conversion rate than Non-Skippable video ads.

Keep your video ad between 15 - 60 seconds.

Step #2 - How To Record Your Video Ads

Natural video filmed on a smartphone in landscape mode generally gets a better response than very professional videos.

The most important thing is to make sure your audio is clear and easy to understand.

See how you go as it’s not worth delaying your video recording… but you can add to your setup as your ads start making money.

1. Call Out Your Audience

You’ve got 15 - 60 seconds.

In the first few seconds, your job is to attract the attention of your audience so they watch your whole video.

Note that since these videos go to a cold audience, we don’t want to attract the attention of everyone... just your ideal customers. Here are some examples:

  • “If you…”
  • “Do you…”
  • E.g. “If you like to nourish your body with plant-based goodness or are on the lookout for cruelty-free supplements for a healthier lifestyle, then this is made for you”

2. Tell Them What They’ll Get

This sentence continues to show your ideal customers that this content is for them while also teasing the content a little bit. This is where you use your Mental Crowbar.

  • “In this video, we’re going to…”

3. Call To Action (Optional)

This is often a good time to put a soft call to action so people know what action you want them to take.

  • “And if you want to know more, [click this button | visit this website] to get [result] with [bribe].”

4. Valuable Content

This is where you teach your viewers what you promised at the start of the video.

  • “So here’s how to…”

It needs to be:

  • Unique and different to what other people are saying
  • Valuable (preferably so they can get some kind of result in advance just by watching)
  • Simple so it’s easy to understand (I suggest sticking to just 3 points or steps)

5. Call To Action

This is the final call to action and should be stronger since they just watched the entire video.

  • “Since you’ve just watched this entire video, it shows you’re serious about [result]. If you want to know more, then the next best step is to [click this button | visit this website] to get [result] with [bribe]. In it you’ll get [list 1-3 benefits]. So just [click this button | visit this website] to go and get it right now. Thanks for watching.”
Step #3 - Test Your Ads

Testing YouTube video ads is crucial for optimizing for results.

Test 3-4 at a time, to find the winning ad that outperforms all the other ones, then create 3-4 new ads that are similar (but improved) versions of the winning ad to create consistent results.

Here are several reasons why testing YouTube video ads is important

Ad Content:

  • Test different variations of your video content, including messaging, visuals, and storytelling approaches.

Call-to-Action (CTA):

  • Experiment with different CTAs to see what viewers are reacting to.

Ad Length:

  • Test varying video lengths to determine the optimal duration that keeps viewers engaged without losing interest.

Thumbnail Images:

  • The thumbnail is the first impression viewers have of your video. Test different thumbnail images to see which ones attract more clicks.

Targeting Options:

  • Experiment with different audience targeting options, such as demographics, interests, and behaviors, to identify the most responsive audience segments.

Ad Placement:

  • Test the performance of your ads on different placements across YouTube, including in-stream ads, discovery ads, and masthead ads.

Spy On Your Competitors

You can peek behind the scenes and see exactly what ads your competitors are running through here: https://adstransparency.google.com/

Type & select their name, scroll to the bottom of the page to show you the longest running ads.

These are the top performing ads (hence why it's been running for so long), this is where you should look for some inspiration.

Perfection Isn’t The Goal

Often you shoot & launch what you believe is the perfect video ad, and find it won’t get a very good response. Then you have some other video you don’t particularly like and it does really well.

We can’t predict exactly what the market will respond to…

Hence our job is just to create a bunch of videos to find out what sticks. So let go of your perfectionism and just start creating some videos.

I guarantee they’ll do better than all the videos you don’t launch as ads ;)
